You’ve traveled hours to reach the campsite, it’s late,
you’re starving and you could really do with a good meal. There are all sort of
ways caravanners combat this, from getting a take-out to just popping a couple
of slices of bread under the grill and making do.
However, wouldn’t it be fantastic to arrive at a caravan
park, knowing there was a hot hearty meal ready to be eaten? It really is
possible! Caravan Owners Club discovered the Wonderbag, an insulated bag based
on a centuries old idea.
One pot cooking can be a very satisfying way to create a
tasty meal. Stews, casseroles, curries – everyone loves them. The idea of the
Wonderbag is that you cook a one pot dish at home before you set off, so you’ll
cook your meal for about half an hour. The clever bit is that the bag retains
the heat because of it’s amazing insulating properties, so you can travel to
your destination and depending on the dish 2 – 5 hours later, you’ll have a
delicious home cooked meal.
Anyone who is a fan of slow cooking will love this idea, but
what’s even better about the Wonderbag is that it requires no electricity,
amazingly it carries on cooking, so if you’ve put your meal in a sealed pot,
you can simply pop the bag in your boot and no more having to decide what on
earth you’re going to eat when you arrive on site.
Furthermore, it’s also ideal for any evening meals and
leaves you with more time, as long as you’ve got the prep done, pop your pot in
the Wonderbag and the rest of the day is yours.
Two other great things about the bag are that it acts just
as well if you want to keep things cool. At the recent NCC Camping and
Caravanning Show where the Wonderbag was being demonstrated, ice put in the bag
at 5am had not melted by midday. So, if you wanted to take your butter, milk,
frozen meals and any other items that needed keeping cool, it would certainly
do the job.
Anyone buying a bag is also helping a worthy cause, because
for every one sold, another will be given to a family in Africa and the impact
that has is amazing. It gives young girls more time to concentrate on their
education, saves on fuel costs for families who can ill afford the charcoal, reduces
deforestation just to name a few of the huge benefits providing a Wonderbag to
these families can make.
Each bag comes with a recipe book and prices start at £30.
